Standard 3.6" Hydrostatic Setting Tool Achieves New Milestone

The standard variant of the 3.6” Hydrostatic Setting Tool achieved a new milestone recently when it was successfully utilised to deploy a 9-5/8” Permanent Bridge Plug in a 10,300 psi well at a temperature of 70ºC. This is the highest well pressure environment within which the standard 3.6” Hydrostatic Setting Tool has been utilised to date.

Due to unknown well issues an Omega Nitrogen Chamber was used to provide the setting force. The Nitrogen Chamber ensures trouble free tool actuation in challenging environments where factors such as excessive debris may be present.  The Omega Tubing Protection System was developed in conjunction with a UK Operator as a potential solution to a junked well issue. The well had a stuck tool string at a significant depth and a collection of wire was unretrievable. The operator wanted to produce from the well but was concerned that the broken fragments would flow upwards causing issues in the Upper Completion. Omega's proposed solution was to utilise their existing gauge hanger as an anchoring base for high flowing tubing system which allows high bypass but also has the ability to capture debris.
